The Tower, Part II
the steel was cold to the touch,
my fingers grasped tightly around it.
this ladder seemed to have no end,
as if I were climbing to heaven itself.
a cool night breeze blew gently against my face,
without thinking I looked down to the earth.
nothing.
the deep black sky had surrounded me now.
arms tired and fingers numb,
I had reached the top.
from below, this tower seemed impossible,
but here I am. On top of the world.
for once in my life,
the stars are within my reach.
This is youth.
After hours while the town sleeps,
buildings become jungle gyms,
and nothing is impossible.
