Off the fields and beaten path
you walk home
shrinking back behind you
the sun sits still in an uneasy twilight.
i know your secret and part your life
i know who your mind wanders to in the quiet summer night
toss and turn, you'll be happy someday
you won't be so alone.
and the haze will rise again
and you will return to the clearing, cut from the tall grass
with smiling faces that couldn't have the smallest clue
that you mean no smile you fake.
the sun hangs high in the sky
and you wipe the sweat from your brow
your heavied breast heaves in the seasonly heat
all you wish to be is home with time to think
a bigger space and someone to share it with.
now you lay in your bed in wait for sleep (it's far and few between)
your window is open to starlight and soft breeze
it rolls around your face, turns your attention away.
now the sun hangs low
and you walk back home
your stride is lighter, no heavier than a feather
you've found someone to slip the sadness right under the door
to wake in the morning, streaming down

with soft bright heather.

At first I thought this was meant to rhyme, and was delighted when I discovered that it didn't. Nice descriptions, although I can't say I fully understood the concept of the whole thing. Overall, a great first piece. I do recommend you keep writing.
