My heart beats
hard and slow
like the thunder in the distance
shaking in my core
The storm on the horizon
the clouds like rearing stallions
as they stampede over the open field
The grasses writhe and moan
as the wind rushes over everything
The trees sway like frantic ballerinas
and my hair flies out behind me
like a banner in a gale
Rain like icy daggers
pierces my heart
douses my soul
Lightning crackles
electric and near
I can smell the ozone in the air
sharp and unpleasant
like fear
I stand alone
and let it fall all around me
washing everything clean
taming the storm.
