“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” -Walt Disney

I’ve been trapped

By the walls

The walls help silence

My restless calls

Some say these barriers hold one back

I suppose those some may be exempt from

failure

Trapped in a fish bowl

The bout which bonds the soul

To never trying, trying to be bold

With an iron hold, stopping creativity

Many are lost to the comfort of distance

These walls can be cold

But unbearably hot

Providing false positives to all told of their

safety

A block too tall for individuals so small

But we must push on, to escape the loop

To find our best selves

They cannot influence my ways

So I say this one and only phrase:

“Those who wish to explore

The new

Must be prepared to feel

The unbearable cold, colder than the walls

To feel blazing heat, hotter than the sun”

For perseverance comes from hardship and

sacrifice

One day we must all venture outside

The constricting box

With cardboard walls painted to look like

concrete

To take a chance at something

New we must do what our curious minds

Tell us and be rid of our small thinking

which masks stationary progress

However comfortable those thoughts may be, we must clear these impossible

Walls

The author's comments:

This poem is about how we, as people view trying new things. People are afraid to step out of their comfort zone because of social blockers, walls. These can be anxiety, stress, people, life, rejection, or just false information that puts the mind into a corner. We must all take the plunge and find what we are each good at by being confident and putting our best selves into the world.
