Remember
There are so many things we wanted to do
But instead, I’m sitting here with you
I sit here thinking about what we did
Memories, stories, fights, kisses, and that weird kid.
Oh, right, I totally forgot that was you!
Remember when you fell through that rotted log
In you grandparents yard, which should be called a bog
I can still hear your mom screaming at me for “pushing” you
Remember that story your crazy uncle told
About you trying to runaway when it was super cold?
You took him aside and said “why talk about me, why not you?”
Remember grade 6 when we weren’t talking to each other?
We got into a fight and totally trashed one another
My mom said I was forbidden to see you again, but who’s my BF? You
Remember last year when we first kissed on you tires swing
And all you could do was sort of sing
Lets not call it singing, it was just… you!
Remember last year when I met you, you were getting beaten up
I came and used my stellar “Hoi-Up!”
The “inbetweener” as you called it!)
Remember all the fun times out be the lake
Or have you decided there was nothing more you could take?
Obviously, because you wouldn’t be lying here if it weren’t true
I’m staying here waiting, for when you open your eyes
I’m staying, but your Aunt, she saying good-bye
I think she’s the one you said farts a lot!
I’m staring at you and I feel like I’m going to cry
I didn’t realize you were saying good-bye
That text was awfully plain
in my blurry vision and over my loud tears
I hear footsteps and loud voice say “it’s okay dear”
I think it was you doctor, doctor Whatshisname
I grab your hand and I squeeze it tight
They’re pulling me away and I can’t hold on, try as I might
A nasty, Behemoth of a nurse grabbed my arm
I swear I felt you squeeze my hand back
But a moment later, those squiggly lines went flat
The ones you said look like vampire teeth
I scream at them to get you back
But the nurse, he gave me a smack
It wasn’t a light smack either!
I look at you, your eyes flutter slightly
You lips move, they flutter lightly
I almost didn’t catch it
“I love you” escaped your thick lips
But then, there were no more blips
Not a single sound came out of your machines
And then only one single sound
It’s eerie and quiet and haunts me cuz it’s all around
Beep… Beep… Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep…
