Remember September
Our utopia bleeds
The sky is cloaked
In a blanket of ash
Voices of the unseen
Strained
Terrified
Penetrate the calm
Of the ignorant world
Questions are left suspended
Where the walls have fallen
And vitally important are
The answers that stay
Concealed
Crushed underneath the charcoal
Beasts that emerge with a
Flaming desire
To generate death
Innocence matters not
As the horror is
Repeated
When a roaring metal machine
Smacks into the tower rising above
The horizon
People nearby flee
Running frantically but
Unsuccessfully as
A stampede of
Lung suppressing
Poison charges after them
Viewers sit frozen
Each face exactly the same
Mouths curved into
The “O” of shock
Eyes bugging out
Ready to fall out
Tears begging the eyes
To close
Even though they know
Curiosity keeps them
Focused; locked on disaster
For once,
Everyone in America
Thinks of someone
Other than themselves
Because all feel
Disbelief and Despair
For once
Since we’ve won our
Independence
All of the U.S.
Fears that freedom is
Slipping through the
Tightly bound nation
Less compassionate are those
Pulling at the threads
That are leaving a
Calamitous hole in our union
It is in
Times of crisis
That we choose to show
Our courage and dedication
That is mending the
Tattered ways of Americans
Yes,
September
Makes us remember
Who we are
What we can do
And will do
To protect our
Freedom and
Each other as well as
From one another
