If one walked into the residence of my soul, what would they see?

One might observe a stable wooden home

Filled with curious bookshelves lining each wall

And blooming gardens, painted walls, and open spaces to roam

Ballrooms and cinemas and beautiful wooden halls

Where leadership blossoms and responsibility is found

One who advises and brings joy lives within.

A strong but kind heart, tactful tongue, and tranquil mind are crowned,

Without any chagrin.

The queen of kindness, one meets the crown

Sounding like a soft summer’s breeze

They never find her sad or wearing a frown

Instead, she is peaceful and at ease.

But another might view an entirely different place;

One of sadness, disparity, and doom.

The crash! of remorse in an ocean of disgrace

Attacks the home and destroys every room.

Loneliness strives, while happiness falls,

Guilt and unmotivation reign

She refuses to let in whoever calls,

And is tied up by her own chains.

The links that bind her won’t let her go,

Tightening as she tries to breathe,

And dragging her to her lowest low.

With anger, she begins to seethe.

After intrusive storms end and the chaos ceases,

She gathers herself and picks up the pieces

To build again her wonderful home

But this time, it’s stronger and made from stone.

Everything that knocks her down,

Makes her more strong, more brave, and more proud

Because the house is perfect despite its flaws

And is one worthy of applause.
