My Hill

I took a walk and climbed a hill
And found a rock upon the peak.
The sky was blue, the wind was chill;
Up here, I’d never have to speak.
And so I sat upon that rock,
And thought of life, and love, and loss,
And of my cat, and if dogs could talk,
On that rock, as silent as the moss.
Before I knew, the hour was late.
I left my perch and stumbled down.
If my parents would berate,
I’d tell them I went out of town
And found my place upon the hill
Where I could sit without a sound,
Just think and think and think until
My mind is not a battleground.
