The Day Outside
The warm glow of the sun teases me
As I sit,
Locked inside the classroom walls.
Gently caressing my skin,
Filling the ravines in my palm
with lacy light,
Dancing in and out of the jungle of my hair.
I hear younger kids playing outside.
The sun’s rays seep under the door and through the windows.
Splayed apparently innocent
Across my desk,
The color of lemonade.
Tempting me.
Calling to me.
The teacher pulls the shades down and it is forced to retreat.
But still,
The light remains between the bottom of the door and the carpeted floor.
Reminding me,
Of the day outside.
