Love Isn't Easy
Since when did you tell me you love me
Since when did you give me a goodbye kiss
Since when do you ask about my day
Since when do you tell me you're always here for me
Are you just now realizing you messed up
You didn’t just break my mom's heart but mines too
What did you see that made you think my mother would try to ruin our family
What do you see in that women
My mother is so much better than that
She has nothing nothing
And I hope I never see her again
I hope you never chose to make me call her my new mother
You tell me you want to show me what a man should do
Never will I know what a man should do
I may not even know how to trust another boy with me
But i promise you if I do
My husband will never do what you did
You want to see me succeed
You want to see me happy
You want to see me live life
Well everything is broken now
You knew I was already going through things
Are you happy that you did this
Are you happy you drained me more
Happy that at this point I just
I just don’t want to be here
I want to say goodbye
You never can answer my question
Why dad
You tell me you don’t want this to interfere with school
To keep doing great
You tell me don’t let this ruin all the work I already did
Do you think I Can take it off my mind
No
I can’t
I’m sorry
Stop trying to own up
My two-year-old brother
My three-month sister
Never will they experience the family bonding
They won’t see their mom and dad together
They won’t have a full family picture
They will have to understand this one day
All those family pictures just another to the garbage
Another broken frame
Another tear because it comes back to my thirteen-year-old brain
Knowing I have to go to places where we had some of the best memories ever
Going to that church where you were married
Having my uncles
My aunts
My cousins
My grandparents
Ask me what happened
Like if it was the fault
Your right it’s not my fault
You think it’s easy
You know this changed me
My attitude
You can’t control it
I can’t either
My mother can’t either
Please answer my question
Why
Why did you do this to our family
There has to be a reason
Now don’t think I’m attacking you
Because I do love you, dad
You are my father
You are someone who raised me
But I’m sorry
I don’t know if I will ever look at you the same way...

This poem was written for my "Eight Grade Poetry Slam." It is about my parent's divorcement. I am expressing my emotions and feelings I have for this situation. During the day I was struggling to think about how I really felt. Well at two in the morning after a long day I grabbed my phone and started writing. As you may see most of my anger is going towards my dad but I still truly love him. Within a divorce, you tend to lose your self-esteem and want to give up on everything. For whoever is going through this just know you are not alone. There is someone that wants to listen and has something to say back. Stay strong you got this!
