I am abandoned and alone.
I wonder where they went.
I hear the bus rumbling.
I see the police give me a strange glance.
I want a warm home and a cup of hot chocolate.
I am abandoned and alone.

I pretend I know where I am and what I am.
I feel slimy, poor, dirty.
I touch my baggy clothes.
I worry that I will not eat tonight.
I cry out to them, "Why did you leave me?"
I am abandoned and alone.

I understand that I am unwanted.
I say that that is not true.
I dream that I am back in our house baking cookies and full of love.
I try to walk on.
I hope that this will end.
I am abandoned and alone.
