Summary:
The death of her father, the loss of her home, and the run for survival. 11 year old Heeyoung barely grasps these concepts as she compares her life to before it all happened, meaning before the war. As she grapples with the truth of her new reality, Heeyoung learns she must change if she is to survive. The girl who loved her home, the parties, the luxuries, the food, security, and the unchallenging and undemanding things needed to go. Nothing good could stay, except one thing. Her family. Over time, Heeyoung comes to learn the importance of her family and essentialness in staying together. However, just as things seem to look up Amma disappears. Terrified, Heeyoung is frantic wondering if her mother will come back or if she is all alone in the world. Would she have grow up? be a mother to her siblings? But if that was the case who would be hers? Would Amma come back? Was she...alive?
