It was a hot, summer day and my teammates and I were excited to be playing in the championship game of an invited tournament in Oregon. One of my best friends, Hayden, was riding with us up to Oregon, as his parents were out of town and would meet us at the fields the next day. When the time came to get up at 6:30 for our game, we were not very happy. We struggled to find our gear and get out the door, despite the prodding of my parents. When we arrived at the field, we were tired and sloppy, and it didn’t look to good for my team, the Idaho Heat. It is sort of ironic that my team was named the heat, and we were playing on a 100-degree afternoon. As the game began, we quickly found some energy and dug deep to win the game. After six innings of what seemed like a never-ending battle against the Boise Burn, we won the championship! Our small, ten year old bodies could not contain our excitement! To celebrate our win, our whole team decided to go to Taco Bell for a late lunch. We piled into the cars and were on our way to the Taco Bell across the street from the hotel we were staying at. We had quite the fiesta, and made quite a mess for the staff. Kids were rushing in and out of the bathroom, and it was a very chaotic scene. Still filled with excitement, we rushed out the door to have a celebration swim at the hotel. We didn’t even take time to make sure all of the team was in the back of my friend Tanner’s dad’s truck. We were all piled up in the tailgate of his truck, because we were just making a short trip across the somewhat busy road to our hotel. Just as we were pulling away from the restaurant, I got a strange feeling in my stomach. I didn’t know if it was the Taco Bell or something else, but I just had a very strange feeling. When we got to the hotel, the feeling didn’t go away. So before I started swimming with my team, a few teammates and I went up to my room on the top floor to relax after playing a tough, tiring game. Not being able to resist the temptation, my friends and I decided to look out the window overlooking the street, as well as the Taco Bell we were just at. As I turned away, I saw a small, red dot out of the corner of my eye. As I went back for another look, I realized what none of us wanted to realize; we left Hayden at Taco Bell! After frantically making our way down the emergency stairs, we met Hayden at the entrance of the hotel. He told us that he ran across the busy street just to get back to the hotel. We learned a few lessons that day. First off, teamwork, perseverance and hard work will always win games. Secondly, if you are responsible for someone else’s kid, don’t leave them to cross a freeway alone without a car! Finally, always, and I mean always, make sure everyone has used the bathroom before leaving Taco Bell.

I thought to write a funny, yet somewhat meaningful work about experiences I have had.
