Christmas
Christmas is joy. Christmas is hope, harmony, happiness. Christmas smells of children playing in the dimming light of the snowy outdoors, while adults happily converse among themselves. Christmas is children running inside to seek warmth and hot chocolate after the chill of winter makes its presence known. Christmas is the frost covered windows glistening from the reflection of the flickering flames in the fire. Christmas is laughter- rosy, red cheeks with eyes shimmering from contagious delight. It is cuddling under a warm, woolen, wonderful blanket next to a Christmas tree the size of a building while snow silently glides down from the midnight sky. But what about everyone else- the less fortunate? Does everyone get this Christmas? Is Christmas always joyful, vibrant, and peaceful? No, Christmas can be sadness. Or perhaps lonely, without peace or joy. A home devoid of decorations, in which the faint outline of a man sits in a chair, alone. A home where a widow sits alone, having lost all of her family members to death. Or perhaps where home is a bench under a bridge, with a man sleeping, wearing the only clothes that he owns, long forgotten by any family members. How can Christmas be hope, harmony, happiness, yet also be lonely and devoid of peace? Perhaps Christmas is meant to be like that. Perhaps Christmas is meant for those that have the joy to spread it to those that have the sadness. Tastes of friends, family, forgiveness and jubilant smells of joy are for everyone. Christmas is sharing the laughter and hope. Christmas is giving.
