Joha's Donkey
I remember one day when I was young someone made fun my shoes because they were red. Of course as a kid, I went back home sad and angry. At that moment, I remember my mom seeing me in that little corner in my room and I would only sit there if there was something wrong. She came and sat beside me and asked me, “what’s wrong?”. I replied, “Mama you probably wouldn’t understand because at your time you didn’t have shoes so people didn’t make fun of you”. I said that because I thought my mom lived at the same time as the cavemen because she was old… Like old! Well in my eyes she was since I was 6 or 7 at that time. Once I said that, my mom laughed. I was confused. But, she said there is story she wants to tell me. Then she started the story that would change my life.
She said… “There was once a man called Joha. He decided to travel with his son but, at their time, they didn’t have a car. But Joha had a donkey for him and his son so they started the journey. so both of them were riding the donkey and then they saw a group of people and that group of people said oh my god some people don’t have a heart how can both of you ride on one poor donkey so Joha decided to walk and keep his son on the donkey, then they reached another area where someone said how do you let your son ride the donkey and you walk doesn’t your son have any respect for his father, so the son jumps of and lets his dad ride the donkey and, after a while another group of people said how could a father let his son walk while he is on the donkey how can a father do such a thing to his son so both of them get angry because they don’t know what the people want from them so they both decide to just walk and let the donkey on a leash behind them so they were about to reach their destination but then a man came up to them and said how stupid are you to walk and let the donkey walk behind then what's the use of the donkey, so then Joha and his son decide to just ride the donkey for the rest of the way and didn’t care about anything the people said anymore.”
After that story my mom asked me did you understand that story, but of course like a little kid i didn’t really understand the real meaning behind or the moral of the story. So I replied and said “ A donkey is there for them to ride and not for them to make it walk behind them but, mama what does this have to do with people making fun of my shoes.”
Then my mom said “Listen up the moral of the story is that do what you find is right and do it and don’t care about what people say because whatever you do people are going to judge anyways but, always think before you act and don’t go of around doing something crazy and say mama said it’s ok do anything I want because people are gonna judge me, and I don’t care, no always think before you act and if you think it's a smart choice and it's something you believe in, do it, and don’t care just do it because people are judgmental". So from that day I didn’t really care if people made fun of me and just lived life, and that is how the moral of Joha’s story was the moral that my life would always live by.
