Overcoming Odds
Is the saying, be yourself because everyone else is already taken, true? I’ve wondered this myself and found it is most definitely true. Being who you want to be, and being confident in your own skin is very important. Growing up with a lack of confidence really affected me. It affected my social life, and how I spent my time just worrying of what others thought of me. I've wasted a ton of time stressing about how I looked or how I acted. I just wanted to be a perfect person, but then I realized that doesn't exist. Perfection is unexistent. It's been quite a cycle of problems I have had to overcome, but with others picking me up, I have now overcome so much.
Growing up living in a world of nerve racking moments everyday can be frightening. Especially when you’re just a young child trying to make friends. When I went into kindergarten I switched schools because the school I had gone to closed. I had to make new friends all over again. But luckily I am blessed to have a twin sister, that I knew would always be by myside. I am also so fortunate to find that one of my best friends from my old school, had switched to the same school as me. But still in a class full of kids I didn’t know, being a shy kid had been difficult. I remember getting anxious and uneasy sometimes when I had to do something in front of the class. I went through quite a battle some days but I made it, and everything turned out alright.
As time went on, I continued to work with this problem. I began to think more positive about the situations I went through daily. Instead of dreading every goofy mistake I made, I tried my best to brush it off and not look back. After a few minutes people wouldn’t remember anyway. I don’t know why I made it such a huge deal before, when it didn’t even matter. Course I still get nervous to this day at times, everyone does once in awhile. But if I have to present a project in front of the class I just like to get it over with. If I just present, people won’t remember what mine had been like after a few other people present. Just get it over with, is a motto I live by when I have to do something I dread. Once it’s done, it’s done, simple as that. As I’ve grown up I’ve realized that I just need to let things go. I’ve definitely become more confident with myself that way, and just happier as well. I will continue to think positive and believe in myself. From being young me, I’ve come a long way and I will continue to go even farther.
“All makeovers should be about enhancing who you are,” Bethany Mota stated. Bethany Mota is a role model in my life. She has helped me gain confidence in myself, and express who I am. A agile backstory of Bethany would be, from being bullied as a kid and losing the voice she had, she then began posting videos on Youtube and gained back her voice that she had been lacking. She is all about making impressions on others to be themselves and do whatever you want to do. Bethany has made that impression on me. I actually had the opportunity to meet her, and she is the sweetest, most genuine person I’ve ever met. From watching her on Youtube, she has helped me gain more of a voice of my own. She also wrote a song called Be Who You Want To Be. One lyric I really enjoy is “You don't need a hero, or someone make believe”. This lyric specifically spoke to me because it’s saying how you don’t need someone to lead you in how you should look or act. You don’t need a savior to make who you are, you just need to live how you want and Be Who You Want To Be. I definitely wouldn't be who I am today if it hadn’t been for her. Bethany Mota will continue to help improve my confidence. She is an inspiration and an incredible role model. Bethany Mota has taught me how to be confident and to truly love myself. I couldn’t be more grateful for how she's helped me blossom into who I truly am.
As I have gone through a part of my life struggling with confidence, I have been able to find what overcoming truly is. With the motivational help and the pushing positivity for me to strive from others, has helped form who I am today. Shyness and confidence has been an obstacle I have had to overcome, and throughout the years I have definitely transformed. I’m extremely grateful for the life I’ve been blessed with to have such an encouraging community of friends and family. Going through this myself, I can only hope that others will understand the importance of accepting yourself for who you are. Striving to be someone you're not isn't the way to live your life. But if you strive to be who you are and express who you are, then you are truly living your life right. In conclusion being yourself is definitely the way to go, because it’s very true that everyone else is already taken.
