“Can I play with you guys” came a voice from behind me, as I concentrated on the red ball bouncing around the court. As I turned around to answer, I saw the ball bounce away and lost all my words, angrily I ignored them and walked to the back of the line, to try and win it all back. This is 4 - square.

The line kept shortening, as fast as they got in they were out again. The king was almost the best, few could beat him, I was one of the few that could.

When I got up there, I shouted “You ready to lose big boy?”

This really made him mad, so mad I heard bounce and saw the shadow of the ball on the ground as it flew over my head, /I’m also pretty short. Then bouncing away it went. Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce.

Someone chased after the ball trying to catch up until it hit the grass and slowed to a stop, letting them pick it up, and bounce the ball to the new king. He started the round off pretty easily bouncing it around in each square going clockwise, until he tried to get the joker out with a ‘bounce’ that came back as he was gloating and got him out. As he chased after it everyone was shifting to there new spots on the court. I shifted from knight to queen, so close to king where I needed to be, this was my kingdom.

As the king got used to being the leader, I was pumping myself up to crush the king and take over the kingdom. As the king started the round I was in the zone: The ball would ‘bounce’ and be gone within a second; if hit in my square.

Finally, the joker got out when the knight surprised their truce by hurtling the ball at his feet; we call it Chicken feeting. They can’t get the ball, because it bounces off there feet, and rolls away.

I laughed and cheered “ Whoo, yea let’s go”.

We high fived until the next round began. He was back and I was happy to take him on again. The king bounced the ball first to me, then I bounced it to joker who was turned around talking about his revenge on me. This backfired when I got him out again. He was so angry, he grabbed the ball and bounced it all the way to the playground about 7/8ft away. I ran after it wanting to win the game, and get to king. While I was running I didn’t realize my shoes were untied. I sprinted after that ball. As I was just coming to the end of the cement, I stepped on my shoelace, tumbling down. I put both hands out in order to catch myself, a mistake I payed for later.

I hit the ground hard with both hands extended. I hit the ground and tears started streaming from my eyes, and rolling down my checks. I held on to my left wrist in pain. I screamed so loud everyone soon started surrounding me, but it was hard for me to make people out, with the hot tears streaming in my eyes.

“Can you get up, off the ground” asked the aid, “What hurts”.

I was so weak I couldn’t respond, I tried to speak, but was in too much pain. I tried to get up, but whenever I moved my arm I winced in pain, and had a hard time moving at all. Slowly but surely I got up with the help of some friends. Slowly they helped me make my way down to the office, so they could call my parents and take me to urgent care.

Later after being taken down to the office, waiting for a little bit, and being picked up and brought to the urgent care center. While I was sitting waiting for the results of the x-ray I thought to myself I’ve learned some important lessons while I’ve been around, but none of this type of importance. Right when I started thinking about it I got the results. I had broken my left wrist. It may have been something bad. But it was also a good thing
I’ve learned an important lesson. To be careful around everything, not just cement, but also objects, and people. It’s so important to know your surroundings. Which is an important asset to an important lesson. Being careful is an important part of life too.
