Outside was cold, windy, and cloudy with a stormy look to it. It was turning out to be a rare moment in Coronado history; it was going to rain. The day was setting up to be a
kind of stay inside and watch netflix kind of day. Smelling the strange aroma from the rain I pedal as fast as I could trying to avoid getting wet. As I made it inside my house I hear a shower like noise on top of my roof; it was the rain. Walking through the narrow hallway to my room to put my stuff down I heard my mom yelling my name in a horrifying tone.
“ Vinny come step into my office!” my mother yelled from the living room. I knew in my head that we didn’t have an office she just said  this when something was wrong.
“ What did I do, my grades are fine and i’ll do my chores in a second” I said calmly to my mom who was laying down on the couch.
“ What are your plans for after high school because your a junior now and you aren’t living in my house after high school.” my mom saying in a really pissy tone.
“ Well, since my grades are better I was thinking I could go to college, but I need to take the SAT.” I said with a confident look on my face. My mom gave a sigh and looked down as if our dog died.
“ Why don’t you just join the Air Force. You make money and you can go to  college for free, it’s the better decision.” my mother said with the intent that her idea was the  full proof plan and had zero errors to it.  Although the Air Force was definitely my back up plan I wanted to enjoy going to school a little bit more and not needing to cut all my hair off, wear a uniform, and take orders that I might not always agree with.  Although I didn’t mind joining the Air force after college, I still thought that it should be my backup plan. On my dad’s side of the family, everyone had served in the military and received a bunch of medals and ribbons for their accomplishments.
“ Mom if i go to college first i’ll make more money in the military and be able to get a good job after I retire.” I tried to explain to her, but that information just went through one ear and out the other for her. There's no winning with my mom she always thinks she is right like every other mother, but 99.9% of the time she was right.
" How are you going to pay for college then, " she said with a stern look waiting for my grand plan.
" Colleges offer financial aid mom," I told her with my patience running slim. I knew she was just trying to find excuses for me not to go to college and to say that the Air Force was better, but I wasn't going to give up that easy.
" College is my first option for my life and the Air Force is my backup!," I told my mom with a louder tone than before. My hands turns to fist and my mother's temper rose.
" You can leave now," she replied in a sassy tone. I quickly walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cold Gatorade and began to microwave a burrito. I left to my room and jumped on my bed.
" I won" I thought to myself while smiling slightly.
