Spells Out Sister
You are my little brothers and it is my job to protect you from anything, even sometimes our parents when they were poisoned by alcohol, because I knew from day one you deserved better than a bottle of Jack Daniels and a pack of Marlboros for a mother and father.
Ever since you two were three years old I was a parent, a friend, and a sister, it really just depended on what you needed. Because I was there to wipe your nose, your bum, and your mouth. Because I was there to offer my compassion, my support, and my love. Because I was there enough to know which one of you preferred Captain Crunch and the other Lucky Charms.
When I look into my brother Harrison’s eyes I do not see disease or damage, I see small galaxies of possibility and wonder. The moment I was the most proud of you was when you confided in me that when a girl was crying at school about having no friends you offered her your friendship. But then again, I’m proud of you everyday for not letting your illnesses define you.
And when I look into Landon’s eyes I see the very own compassion I have for helping people in them, I see a million suns burning, I can see the greatness you are capable of and I can hear it too when you read out loud to me. I know you’re sensitive and you’re going to invest yourself so much into people and then somebody’s going to break your heart and you’re going to be a little more cold, quiet and reserved. Just like me.
When you start falling in love with girls or boys, it doesn’t matter to me, I’m going to teach you to guard your heart a little because when you have your first heart break I will have mine all over again too, because you each carry half of my heart in your pockets.
I know now that our mom and your dad are much more fit to raise you these days. But I will always be the one who let you sleep in their bed, gave up seeing some random band to be there to hold your hand, and helped you with your homework, because I love you, more than anything, and I always will.
Every tear I wiped from your cheek, and every night I soothed you to sleep spells out sister. You are my little brothers and it is my job to protect you from anything, even sometimes our parents when they were poisoned by alcohol, because I knew from day one you deserved better than a bottle of Jack Daniels and a pack of Marlboros for a mother and father.

This is about helping raising my younger twin bothers, one who has a boat load of illnesses and the other prefectly healthy. I love them both with all of my heart and I often find them inspiring me.
