First Day of High School
I stepped through the doors I knew I’d be coming to for the next four years. My high school days seem to have come much too soon. High school is like being born. You come into a whole new world you’ve never seen before. It turns out to be the complete opposite of what you thought it would be like. The long hallways, along with these faces I’ve never seen before. People that are much older than me seem to be getting bigger and bigger, while I want to shrink to the size of a pebble and hide away.
The school is a lot more intimidating from the inside. I could not stop thinking about the possibilities that could happen. ‘What if I get lost?’ ‘What if I can’t find my room?’ The questions spun around in my head, drowning me with negative thoughts.
I noticed the scent of dish soap and sweat lingered the halls, while heading to the bathroom after third hour. I admired my outfit in the mirror, looking intently at the light wash jeans that formed around my figure. My white t-shirt must have fit a little too much because the circumference of my waist was see through.
“Hey girl, I missed you so much!” says the girl who hasn’t spoken a word to me over the summer. I smiled and respond with a slight, “you too.”
As the bell rang, I struggled to find my next hour. “Hello class, this semester we will be learning about…” The teacher continues with the same spiel I heard in every other hour.
The day drained me of all energy, from being lengthy and strenuous. The building seemed ginormous! The transition was difficult and I didn’t think I’d ever get used to it. I knew the way around the middle school like the back of my hand. The horseshoe setup was extremely easy to get used to. On the other hand, this school seems like hallways were dropped in random spots.
As I sat in my room, later that night, reflecting on the course of the day, I realized my high school years will fly by before I know it. These faces that I’ve never seen before won’t be so unfamiliar and this huge school will be tiny in comparison to the vast expanse of the real world.
