Personal Narrative
The sun above our heads shines its beautiful rays of sunlight, enough to make our blood boil and sweat pour down our face. In my backyard is a large rectangular pool. The depth ranges from 3 feet at the shallow end to 7 feet at the deepest part of the pool. I’m sitting on my couch watching T.V. with my brother. On my right is the large window that allows you to see the pool in the backyard. It’s a really hot and humid day about 91 degrees with about 85% humidity. So me and my brother decided to go outside and play baseball and then come back and cool off in the pool.
I gather my baseball equipment and some baseballs and we start walking out of the garage down the driveway. Baseball is a game that makes me want to keep playing. I have so much fun, just like when a team wins they jump and tackle each other on the pitcher’s mound. The baseball fields are right across the street so it doesn’t take long to get there. Right when I step foot onto the field I can feel the blazing heat already making me sweat. Out on the field on a very hot day, it feels like a desert. So first we play catch and then he pitches to me so I can practice on my hitting. After we played baseball and are dripping with sweat we walk home. When we got home, I noticed that we forgot to lock the door. I reluctantly step inside and check to make sure nobody broke in the house. Turns out nobody did.
I walk up to my room to get my bathing suit on and my brother said he will go in the pool later. We jumped in the pool and right when our warm, sweaty skin touch the first bit of water, it felt as if there were ice cubes in the pool. After being in the pool for about ten minutes I go back inside and my brother still doesn’t want to go in the pool. I go in the kitchen and get an ice cold Pepsi. I then notice my brother is not here. I look out the window and I see him entering the backyard with a book to read in the sun. He told me to go outside because he wanted to show me something.
As you enter the backyard, there is the majestic pool and there’s also a trampoline. He wanted to show me this trick on the trampoline. He starts jumping and getting higher and higher. There are nets around the trampoline, so you can’t fall out unless you go to high. As he gets higher, he closed his eyes and tried to do a backflip. He came nowhere close and almost landed on his neck, which could have been bad. He attempts to try again and he jumps higher and higher. This time he went a little too high. He does the front flip and I notice he’s coming out of the net! He falls about ten feet and he splashes in the ice cold pool and I get soaked by an enormous wave. I fall on the floor not breathing because I was laughing so hard. He rockets up from the bottom of the pool and he asks, “Why are you laughing?” This was the funniest thing I had seen in a while.
I hear a faint buzzing noise. “Oh no my phone!” he screamed. That made me laugh even harder. He forgets everything and it was even better that he ruined his phone. I look at the back of his head and to my amazement I see blood. He said he hit his head on the bottom of the pool, but it didn’t hurt. After I had a good laugh, I went to go get him a towel. He dried himself off and then we both went back inside to watch T.V. I was like, “How can you be that dumb and go over the net?” He told me he was closing his eyes so he didn’t see. He said, “Can you just forget this because I’m embarrassed.” It turns out this day was worth waking up for. Elbert Hubbard once said, “Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.”
