Football Game Hierarchy
Cheerleaders, the ones dating the football players,
Wear short pleated skirts with tanks
That don’t meet the dress code, but somehow still appear as part of the mandatory uniform.
High blonde pony tails bounce as they repeat each cheer
Until no one is listening anymore.
Buzzy, a cheerleader in disguise, dances along to the cheers,
But is less peppy in her heavy green and black hornet costume.
The dazzlers wear even shorter skirts than the cheerleaders
And sparkly white cowboy hats, their faces painted
With too much mascara and each smile the same shade of red lipstick.
Every fight song choreographed,
They sit in their perfectly straight rows in the stands, atop their bleacher covers.
The guard girls are epitomes of irony, garbed in ugly green sweatpants, black t shirts,
But their faces painted more elaborately than the dazzlers, with green eye shadow to their eyebrows and a dramatic blush upon their cheeks.
Finally there are the band girls, grasping their flutes and clarinets,
Hair in awkward combinations of headbands and ponytails in order to fit under their hats.
Some paint black lines under their eyes, out of spirit, some wear everyday makeup because they are meeting their boyfriend during third quarter.
They are a sea of non-uniformity, but all in the uniform of a show shirt and black bibbers.
