Honduran Forest
As I walked up the difficult incline, I heard the crunch of old rocks under my feet. Pesky, hiding tree stumps revealed themselves to me and rose out of the dirt with each step. Thick branches sewn in the ground were intertwined like a pile of tangled cords. Massive tree trunks stood a stern guard over the forest. I caught glimpses everywhere of the sun playing peek-a-boo within the forest leaves. At the top, the air was as clear as running waters and refreshing like a long-awaited breeze on a hot day. The atmosphere was soothing and calm. It felt also exhilarating, like swimming deep in the ocean. The distant crash of the foamed water beating the land played as an unending soundtrack to the forest. I saw below plants, which resembled Monet paintings, coated in different shades of cohesive green. The forest smelled as if it has just rained. I heard the mumbled hum of insects buried deep in the forest floor, and the chirps of the birds in the forest canopy that made the hairs on the leaves leap up. The mysterious, opaque river in the center reflected all this like a mirror.
