"Be ready for anything and be the best person you can be" James Bakar

“Read the room and find your target,” says 17 year-old self-acclaimed comedian Mei Astle who's been doing this since 2006. If you are struggling to make people laugh, according to Astle, practice is key. Make sure you look for someone who can take a joke or someone who seems to be having a bad day. You can tell if they are frowning/crying. Astle has a very specific process as she searches for laughter.

First of all you do not want to be a person who is embarrassed easily, secondly you want to find your target, finding your target is a very delicate procedure. Ideally you are looking for someone with a frown to turn upside down, once you locate your target you have to test the waters. Start with a surface level conversation about what they are doing that day, make a lighthearted joke (looking for a laugh) If all goes well it's go time. You want to be constantly observing your surroundings looking for anything to make a joke of. Once you find something (not someone because that is disrespectful) point out the butt of the joke to your target making sure you have their attention. Start small and build your way up if they are hysterically laughing then you know it was a success. However, a lot can go wrong so keep practicing.
