In the United States only 36 of the 50 states use what is called the death penalty. This is when a major crime is committed and the government kills the criminal instead of sending them away to prison. This should be used in every state for multiple reasons. The reason are that it will save more lives than kill, much faster, cheaper and prison for life is much worse of a punishment than the death penalty.  You may now disagree with some of these reason but I am now going to explain why they are great.
It sounds weird saying that the death penalty will save more lives then it will kill but here is the reason why. When somebody is thinking about committing a major crime such as murder they will think harder knowing that if they get caught they will be killed. Instead of the criminals risking getting arrested they are now risking their life. Also when they are in prison family and friends can still visit but if they are killed they will never be able to see anybody they like. This will cause lots of them to not go through with whatever it was they were thinking of doing.
Going to prison for life is much worse than getting the death penalty for these following reasons. Number one is that there is a lot more suffering going to prison because you are always locked up living a terrible life but when you are dead you do not have to go through any of that. Another reason is that you do not have to live and tell everybody why you are locked up because of how stupid you were. That is why prison can be much worse than the death penalty in many cases.
People say that the death penalty is crazy because there are chances of killing innocent people and they are very wrong. A reason why this is wrong is that the death penalty would rarely have to be used because of how the criminals think much more before committing the crime. Also the chance of something like that happening is so low even if crime rates were not to drop significantly so just imagine how nearly impossible it would be for that to happen. Of course there be those few cases ever where it happens but so many more innocent lives would be saved.
Lastly, killing a criminal is much easier, faster and cheaper than locking them up in prison for many years feeding and taking care of them. It is easier because nobody has to watch over them, cheaper because food does not need to be given to prisoners and faster because it onlt takes a few minutes to kill somebody.
Every single state in the United states should use the death penalty and there are really good reasons why it should be used but not any real reasons on why not to. The death penalty saves more lives than it kills, its cheaper, faster, and easier all together. Why wouldn’t you want to save many innocent people?
