college for kids

This summer I went to College for Kids in Fulton, Missouri. It is a week long camp for intelligent kids. It was my 3rd year, but it was my first year in the third session. This session is    the saddest of the three because at the end, the sophomores leave and (unless they are liked by the camp director) they don’t come back. My favorite night of camp was the last. It was filled with crazy people, screaming kids, and spotlights.
I woke up to see the pale, dimly lit wall in front of me. Then the thing that woke me up came again as the wall vibrated as fists hit the other side. Then the screaming also came again. The words were muffled, but they sounded like, “WAKE UP!”   This made me wonder what the heck was happening. I opened the door and poked my head out. There were 4 or 5 sophomores running through the small hallways, and about 3 people doing the same thing I was. Then the RA in the hall appeared from the room to my right to try to control the chaos. We were then told to change and go outside. I flew out of my small room with normal clothes on and only one shoe. With the other shoe in hand, I ran down the stairs and out the main doors outside.
As I sat down on the small set of stairs outside, I looked at the huge group of kids congregating around a bench. As I slipped on my other shoe, the camp director stood up on the bench. I walked to the back of the crowd still confused because it was midnight. I remembered the air smelled sour, and then the director said something about “5 people escaped from a hospital we are going to look for them.” Still           confused an army of 400 kids walked to the gates of William Woods University.
Just outside and to the left, there were 3 10 foot tall         ladders with spotlights on them. We were given rules like   don’t try to get it in your mouth or in your eyes. Then we all were given cups of colored dye. Then I knew what we were going to do. We were going to have a color fight. When the colors were in the air, it was beautiful. The colors made a blanket of orange, green, purple, and yellow. As it slowly fell toward the ground, the colors coated the kids and made human Andy Worhal paintings.
I hope you can see why this was my favorite night at camp. The walk back was full of laughter and sadness because it was some kid’s final day at camp. It makes me sad that I only have two weeks left. It did make me wonder how are they going to top this. This was one of my favorite moments from my summer that never stopped.
