The Long Awaited Break

Being a student today is very busy. Loads of homework and extracurricular activities make the day extremely stressful. I wait all day to go home and all week for Friday. There is no time to enjoy the day outside of school. Life revolves around school and the work that needs to be done. I wait all class for it to end, all day to go home, and all week for the weekend. The day circles around when the next break will be.

School breaks are the greatest time to be alive. A week or even a couple of days off of school can make the world a better place. These trips make school worth going to. They help regain focus and maintain happiness.

Ski trips are the greatest for a mental reset. A good workout all day long and the immaculate views satisfy the mind. Also, the break from technology for the day is an exceptional mental reset. On the chairlift, I can talk or take a break and let everything calm down, but when the ski run starts it's intense. The wind howling by and the screaming of the snow below my feet. All this noise yet the world goes quiet. No thoughts just skiing, no school just skiing, no phone just skiing, no distraction just skiing.

The piles of homework that compound throughout the week feel like a never-ending pit of rubbish. The busy work that makes no sense to spend extra time on takes all free time away. The homework that is due for a grade but is never checked over. “Am I doing it right,” “Am I doing it wrong.” This is a question that will never be answered when assignments are graded for completion.

Being a student in 2024 is more than a full-time job. It takes dedication and sacrifice to try my best. What seems like years to get assignments done and tests are more confusing than a human brain. Even small breaks can help reset and make time feel like time has reset.
