True Meanings
Every day, everyone uses so many different items and all these things have different meanings. Whether it’s a small thing like a toothbrush or it could be a coffee mug that your best friend gave to you when you were younger. All of these things have different meanings and with it, all of them have their memories as well, and trying to limit these items, to limit these memories is not something that comes easily.
My phone. I know that one item that I would choose is, one-hundred-percent, my phone. I’ve been through so much in these past three years from moving four times and going to three different schools but the one thing that’s always been with me is my phone. Whenever I need it, it’s sitting in my pocket ready for me to use. My phone and I have gone through a lot together as well too. Almost all my memories have my phone somehow included in them, but there are some where my phone has nearly saved my life or destroyed it.
It was a bright Tuesday morning. I toppled out of my bed as I had to get ready to go to my cricket game. I slowly trotted my way into the bathroom to get ready and after I was ready I started heading to the game. I got there and played the game and after the game, my friends and I came up with a bad idea. “Do you guys want to bike to Taco Bell?” my friend Arnav asks.
“Isn’t Taco Bell like 7 miles away from here? Isn’t that kinda far?” I ask.
“Yeah, none of us have a car either, we would have to bike there,” Param adds.
“Yeah my mom probably wouldn’t let me come either,” I add
“Don’t tell her then…” Viraj says. And because of this decision, I was about to go on the adventure of my life.
We start to head to Taco Bell, I have the directions on my phone so I keep my phone in my pocket while biking. We reach the first turn and I check my pocket for my phone and it isn’t there. Where’s my phone? Was it not just in my pocket? Did I drop it? At this moment an overwhelming feeling of fear overcame my body and I started shaking looking everywhere for my phone.
I did find my phone later in the day but it still doesn’t change how worried I was about my phone. I know that there is no other item in this world that I would be scared of losing other than my phone, so one of my three items would be my phone.
My car. Since I got my car a couple of months ago I don’t like leaving it. Whether it’s just sitting in there listening to music, or hanging out with friends, it is just a different feeling when I’m sitting in there. I could probably stay there forever because I don’t want to go home.
Currently, the feeling of home right now is just not a feeling that I like, so waiting in my car doing nothing is one of my favorite things to do. If I could, I would live in my car, and start calling it my second home. Who needs a real home? Who needs a place to go where you feel comfortable? Who needs a place where you can be yourself?
My AirPods. The first two items I selected were items that had meaning to them. But my last item is something that helps me every day. My AirPods constantly stay in my ear as if it’s like a home for them. I like keeping my Airpods in my ear, listening to music, being on call with my friends, or watching Netflix. Whenever I am doing anything fun, my AirPods are usually in my ear.
There are many items that I use every day and most of these items are meaningless but the three most important items aren’t the items themselves, it’s the memories that come with them which is what is really important to me.
