“The only thing worse thing being blind is having sight but no vision” once said by Helen Keller (Keller). It all started out in the summer of 2012 in the woods by the Olney City Park. That’s when we were all ready to have a airsoft war and we were already to have both teams go to war. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame being partially blind.

Helen Keller had to overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate which caused many problems when she was a child because it was more difficult for Helen to learn communication. When Helen Keller was a baby, she got sick and became blind and death around the age two years old. The Keller’s hired Annie Sullivan to teach Helen to communicate. Annie was able to teach Helen trust, obedience, and language to overcome her obstacle. Annie did it successfully; even though,  Annie was not a teacher, yet she was pulled out of college to help Helen learn.
Like Helen Keller, I also overcame the obstacle of being partially blind for a period of time. When I was in the airsoft war, I got shot in the left eye with the plastic BB with the gun that shot it was an automatic AK -47 battery powered gun. Then my mom took me to the doctors and they could not do anything about it, so the doctor had to send me to Evansville, IN to an eye specialist and from there on they gave me special eye drops that I had to do it for about 3 weeks to a month and I had to change the way I slept because if I would have put my head in a certain way, something about the blood would rush in and make it worse.
Although our obstacles were different, we share a few similarities. My obstacle was kind of like hers because she was blind and I was partially blind in the left eye. That means I got to experience what it was like to be partially blind for a period of time. Even though she was blind in both eyes and I was blind in one eye I still had the effect of what it was like. Also Helen Keller had a teacher help her do stuff just like me. But my doctor made me look at these letters every time I had to go visit to see if the eye drops improved my vision.
Now having to overcome an obstacle from Helen Keller would be difficult, so im glad mine was treatable. I learned from Helen Keller’s experience that you can still learn and be very educated. Now what I learned from my experience is to always wear safety goggles when you have a airsoft war with people. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” once said by Helen Keller(Keller).
