“It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.” (Frederick Douglass) Michael Jackson can be defined simply as a hard worker who put in his best efforts and allegiance everyday to reach success. He is best known for his 1982 album, Thriller, which is was his best-selling album of all time, earning him the most-awarded recording artist in the history of popular music. Idolized by the world, Michael Jackson felt, due to his international influence, it was his duty to inspire people to take a small action within their own community to ensure a huge change. He made efforts to inspire people to make their 'spark' on the world because he believed many sparks will turn to one flame. In order to succeed, Michael had to “work for all he got” to become the humanitarian he was and to be able to assist a variety of self initiated charities. “From The Bottom of My Heart” was composed by Jackson and was availed to benefit the Hurricane Katrina relief fund, and, although it was never published, it still had a massive impact on the world.

Being the proactive humanitarian he was, Michael Jackson decided to establish himself as a humanitarian through a lifetime of charity work. Hurricane Katrina was his “call to action” within U.S. Borders. As Michael Jackson once said, “It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf Region of my country. My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy. I will be reaching out to others within the music industry to join me in helping to bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything.” As a patron of kindness, Michael felt it was his duty to support and bring hope to the victims. Having to due with his life as a humanitarian, in 1985, Michael Jackson was co-author who engendered the famed “We Are The World” to benefit the African famine relief fund. Due to his great success in the international benefactor song, Michael Jackson was convinced that his project for the victims of Hurricane Katrina would be just as successful, perhaps even more disseminating within the U.S.

Despite never being widely released, “From The Bottom of My Heart” is a phenomenal song that has impacted and inspired millions of people across the globe. As 19 year old Seaira Barton stated, “My Hero... Michael Jackson. His talent, loving heart, and his soul have always inspired me. He taught me so much in life through his beauty of art, dance, and love. When I heard about his new single, “From The Bottom of My Heart”, I was inspired to make a change in my community pertaining to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.” Based on Seaira’s thoughts, it is quite evident that the song has impacted the lives of many and has encouraged them to help out. Additionally, Jackson Smith agrees, “He was a down-to-earth man and there’s no doubt “From The Bottom of My Heart” would’ve been a huge success if Michael hadn’t passed so soon.” Ellie Griffin adds, “He gave so much to charities, through songs like “We Are The World”, and would’ve helped out the Hurricane Katrina relief fund tremendously with “From The Bottom of My Heart” if he had survived. He inspired us all to be kind to other people due to his giving and kind heart.” Even though the song was never officially published, it still impacted the lives of many fans and people across the globe who were inspired by Michael Jackson’s loving heart and how he was hastened to take action and help out.

Speaking as a huge fan of Michael Jackson and how incessant he was to change the world, “From the Bottom of My Heart” has a special place in my heart as a lover of music. In my own life, I know what it’s like for someone to lose something important. In January of 2005, my father lost his life from a devastating, three year battle of esophagus cancer. In a just as awful way, during Hurricane Katrina, nearly 2,000 people died, and many families suffered and continued to suffer from the aftermath. “From the Bottom of My Heart” may be meant to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina, but it also helps me cope with my loss as well. When I consider the song’s intentions, I feel as if Michael Jackson is there, supporting me at every move, as if he is sorry for my loss ‘from the bottom of his heart.’ Michael may not have lived to finish his relief song, but his intentions and hopes for the song exist today.

All in all, Michael Jackson is referred to as the “The King of Pop” for his phenomenal music that got people up on their feet for decades. From Thriller receiving the best-selling album of all time to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, he was most appreciated for his giving heart and pure soul. He composed songs like “We Are The World” and “From the Bottom of My Heart” to benefit relief funds and inspire the globe to want to help make a change with him. “From The Bottom of My Heart” was developed to benefit the Hurricane Katrina relief fund, and, although it was never published, it still impacted the world with a perpetual message. He taught people that taking many small actions to help the community will lead to something much greater and impact the world. For, after all, a rain drop on its own is quiet and feeble, but many together make a powerful, blaring storm.
