Not giving an allowance is good for kids.

Parents from all over the world think allowance is great for their kids. My friend’s parents have 3 children all of them older than the age of 12,  each of them gets an allowance for simple tasks such as taking out the trash, brooming part of the house, washing dishes, and putting them all away. Should they really be getting money for doing simple tasks that have to be done?

That’s exactly the problem, says Lewis Mandell, Ph.D

“children who received an unconditional allowance knew much less than others about saving, spending, and credit.” It's part of a larger cultural message: kids that get an allowance unconditionally don't know how to properly save and build up money, which can also affect kids in their adulthood. Most parents give their kids a weekly allowance of $30. THAT’S A LOT...My Hispanic parents would never, they say that you HAVE to help WITHOUT money being given to us. The kids do the work but only if they get paid.

As the kids grow up, they expect to be paid more and more just because they’re getting older. The 2000s Jumpstart Coalition Survey said, “American high school seniors received an allowance based on chores, and 10.5% received an unconditional allowance.” We're talking about “kids' ' who are 17 even 18 there considered ADULTS who are fully capable of receiving their own money and getting their own job.

When children throw fits for not receiving money, our job should not be to give them an ultimatum of doing it and getting money or to not do the chore at all Instead, our job is to teach kids to not be dependent on money and as generations go on teach them to naturally help around the house without giving them a prize(money).

If you really want your child to value money, we should not give them petty money for taking trash out, taking out groceries, or clearing a table instead, teach them to help willingly as a family and to not rely on cash as a prize and stop letting their parents be Money-Giving Robots.

This year, let's normalize children not being paid for household tasks.
