In the Kitchen

Laureen's simply-put poem brings the complex feeling of numbness into light. It is a moment of "shock" that doesn't feel surprising at all. You sit in silence and take in the setting. You pay attention to the slightest movements, as your mind can no longer perceive it's own thoughts. So all you can do is wait until they come back. That, is what it's like to sit in the kitchen. It is the habit of recording your own heartbeat in sync with the raindrops above you. All in order to make sure it's still there. And this poem, although vague, is powerful.
