Miracle Grow
In “Miracle Grow,” the author writes about how he wanted to grow taller because he was always referred to as the short kid. Because of this, Brendan decided to get a hormone stimulant.
Many people, especially teens, feel like they aren’t good enough. They may feel they’re not good at school, or their physical traits aren’t good enough. Some people may want a different eye color, different hair color, or different body. The list goes on and on. This can be caused by bullying, but sometimes the person simply doesn’t accept himself/herself. Self respect is extremely important. Brendan did not have self respect in the beginning, however he gained it after the hormone stimulant didn’t work.
This piece made me realize how important self respect is. Thank you, Brendan McGuigan.
