I found Nicholas Williams's "Dorms in College...and Beyond", extreamly informative on the costs of dorms and what people are doing about it. A new company in San Francisco is renovating buildings and turning them into a modern and cheap dorm. Compared to other dorms in California, the new company, Starcity, is alowing the dorms to be rented cheaper. It is about 1,200 of a difference. In addition, Starcity residents get a furnished bedroom, a shared rom, a kitchen, a living room, and a outdoor space. Not only is it spacious and cheap but it also cuts pollution and traffic. They are creating dorms at a fast pace and at affordable rates without over development, which were some peoples concerns. I want to thank Willliams for informing us about a cheaper and better place to live in, especially since I am thinking about going to college soon.
