TSUNAMITSUNAMITSUNAMI MAG
A tsunami weeping
and tiger's eye flashing
while he batters
windy lashes.
I see gray splashed,
gray splashed like fog,
gray splashed like shadowy sky
against skyscrapers.
A tsunami weeping
like a girl peeling onions.
Winds scatter limbs,
living things
like handfuls of pennies
thrown from palms.
Like a girl peeling onions
trees turn to tatters
shredding their bark
layer leaving layer
revealing
stump after stump
down a street
splashed in gray.
Gray splashed like fog,
gray splashed like shadowy sky
against skyscrapers.
A tsunami weeping
windmills that can tear
apart a family
leaving a daughter without
mother and father without
son and aunt without uncle
and cousin without cousin
and heart without beat
and birth without life.
Tsunamitsunamitsunami
kicking and screaming
while dragging its feet
cracking the concrete
shattering the souls
picking up winds that scatter limbs,
living things
like handfuls of pennies
thrown from palms.
Trees turn to tatters
shredding their bark
layer leaving layer
stump after stump
like a girl peeling onions
over a kettle
mixing beans and carrots and
winds that scatter limbs.
A tsunami weeping
like a cloud weeping rain
drops that pierce the pavement.
Houses turn to winds,
mists fly over the heads
of people running
to gray skyscrapers
from the waves that swallow children
and backwash babies,
leaving birth without life
and daughter without son
and mother without father
and sister without brother
and heart without beat
until it rips and shreds
the world we call home
the world we call Earth
to its lava core
like a girl peeling onions
in winds that scatter limbs.
A tsunami weeping
and waves crashing
that are filled with salt,
salt and bodies and blue
and gray.
Skies are salt
mixed with haze
and gray clouds that pour
singeing acid rain
drops to the winds that scatter limbs
to mother-less daughters
and brother-less brothers.
A tsunami weeping
declaring that bodies
must be put to rest
and put to sleep
and put to death
by morning,
morning when the gulls call
and blue jays whistle
and sun smiles his rays
as if yesterday wasn't gray
as if yesterday wasn't a nightmare
and today is a fairy tale, a beautiful nightmare.
As if yesterday tsunami didn't weep.
