30 Hour Famine
For the past two years, I have participated in an annual sleepover at my church. The purpose of the sleepover is called the 30 Hour Famine, a program created by World Vision. Each member participating in the program is sponsored to fast for thirty hours, because that is the average amount of time a child in a third world country goes without eating. The famine truly was a life changing experience for me. While participating in fun activities such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero, I was able to experience what it is like for children in third world countries. I did in fact fast for the whole thirty hours; it was tough but I managed. The famine really opened up my eyes to a world that I barely knew anything about. This year my youth group raised over $4,000 in sponsors for the famine. I would encourage anyone to participate in one, or get their church to participate in one. It truely was eye-opening.
