The Cat
It sits there. Its green eyes are like endless meadows staring into mine from atop the cupboard. It knows what I've done, by some strange intuition it can tell.
I shake my head and clear these nonsensical thoughts from my mind. It's a cat, for god's sake! I get back down on my knees and resume scrubbing, the wall clock slowly ticking away the endless hours.
Standing up, I stretch. Most of the red is now gone from the carpet, but it is no longer the cream colour it was before it happened. No matter, I'll be gone soon enough.
The cat is still there. Watching.
I sigh, pick up the black bag, and leave the now empty house.
