OPENING
INT. HOSPITAL BED - MORNING
WEST STANLEY, 17, paralyzed from a motorcycle accident, lies on a bed in the corner of the dark room, dark brown hair, fit, flawless and strong face structures.
NURSE NORRIS, 40, sits next to West’s bed, waiting for him to wake up, dirty blonde hair, plus size.
(A rush of wind blows through the window. Nurse Norris smiles.)
NURSE NORRIS
(camera focus on Nurse’s face)
How are you doing, Mr. West?
(West relaxes his body and opens his eyes.)
NURSE NORRIS
Okay, you’re okay.
(Nurse Norris slides a metal bar down by West’s feet.)
(camera focus on West’s bed)
NURSE NORRIS
Here we go.
(Nurse Norris gets up and leaves.)
(Fades out)
(Camera focuses on the window beside West’s bed.)
OLVIA, 16, patient neighbor of West, drags her IV stand into West’s room, dark long black hair, small body, light snow skin.
(Fades in)
(Olivia sits down next to West’s bed, crossing her legs.)
( The camera follows Olivia around the room.)
OLIVIA
So you’re awake.I’m your neighbor, Olivia. I already know your name is West. Don’t bother trying to talk.
WEST (V.O.)
How bad off was I? I heard the sound of something being rolled and then the girl was right in front of me. A small girl with huge dark eyes.
OLIVIA
And by the way, you’re paralyzed, in case no one told you.
WEST (V.O.)
No. That couldn’t be right. I was not paralyzed. I could move. I tried to wiggle my hands, but everything was strapped down.
OLIVIA
Don’t believe me?
Olivia moves closer to West’s bed and pulls her IV stand along beside her. She pokes West in the arm.
OLIVIA
Feel that?
Of course you don’t, you’re paralyzed, that’s why.
(Olivia lets out a giggle)
WEST (V.O.)
I tried to feel my lower body. I could feel it, I could feel the weight of my legs attached to me. I couldn’t feel anything. I felt my heart beating fast, that awful sweaty feeling went through me.
(Olivia rolls her IV stand to the corner of the room and gathers her white robe around her body and sits down.)
OLIVIA
Sorry if you didn’t already know. I’m sure you’re bummed. I’m a dancer, so if that happened to me, if I were paralyzed, I would just..I don’t know what I would do.
(West starts to blink heavily. His face starts to tense up.)
WEST (V.O.)
I’m not paralyzed! I wanted to yell at her. Get out, just get out but I knew she couldn’t hear my thoughts.
(Olivia looks down at her feet.)
OLIVIA
I bet you’re wondering why I’m here.
(Olivia raises her hand and starts pushing her dark bangs from her eyes.)
OLIVIA
I used to weigh 85 pounds but laying in this hospital bed all day changes everything.
(Olivia points at her IV bag and puts a soft smile on her face.)
OLIVIA
That’s liquid nutrition. So tasty!
(West looks Olivia up and down and raises his brows.)
WEST (V.O.)
Her smile, I noticed her tiny white teeth.
OLIVIA
You were on a mountain bike when you had an accident. I heard your parents talking about it.
(Olivia watches West’s face.)
OLIVIA
Do you remember?
Blink once for yes, and twice for no.
WEST (v.O.)
I blinked once, then blinked twice.
Was I even blinking?
(Olivia’s eyes start to open wide.)
OLIVIA
Do you remember it or not?
WEST (V.O.)
Her eyes were pretty but in a scary way.
OLIVIA
I didn’t think you’d remember it, not yet.
WEST (V.O.)
She was crazy, I needed her away but was she lying?
(Olivia hears noises outside the door.)
(camera focuses outside the door.)
(nurses walking by.)
OLIVIA
I need to leave before they catch me here.
(Olivia gets up and starts dashing to the door.)
(Nurse Norris walks in the room and is checking West’s feeding tube.)
NURSE NORRIS
Seems like it’s a little uncomfortable.
(West blinks with a straight poker face.)
WEST (V.O.)
It was really uncomfortable.
(Nurse Norris grabs a hot warm towel.)
NURSE NORRIS
This will help.
And may I say, I heard noise coming from your room West, but it wouldn’t have been you right?
WEST (V.O.)
That was Olivia she was talking about.
(Nurse Norris looks over to the door.)
NURSE NORRIS
But it wouldn’t be the patient next door. Olivia has been in a coma for over a year.
(West’s eyes start to open wide as Nurse Norris turns back with a smile.)
NURSE NORRIS
Forget about it, not necessary!
WEST
What was she talking about?
Olivia is in a coma? She was literally here a second ago..
