The Extra Arm
The Extra Arm
“Huh” I think, “That’s definitely not right”. I had grabbed the strange drink when i rushed by the local coffee shop to get something to jolt me awake before school. Louis wasn't at his normal spot near the counter, which i thought was a little odd, I had been seeing him regularly for the past two years, and he was usually very consistent. Instead a strange looking man had taken his place. He had greasy dark hair that stuck up on either side of his head, and one eye seemed to be twitching. He was also dressed strangely , in a bright white labcoat and scarlet pants. “ G,Good morning s,s,sir” He stammered, “W,w,w would you ,like to try our n,newest beverage?”. “ Ahhhh, no” I replied, perplexed “ Just a regular coffee for the trip to school”. “ No c,c,coffee today!” The strange man yelped, “Machine is b,b,broken only the new beverage is available!”. “ Well….i guess ill have that then” I said. “What kind of coffee shop doesn't have a backup coffee machine?” I thought irritably “ Oh well, as long as this new stuff gets me up i'm fine with it” . Sighing, I hand the cashier the money and wait. Five minutes later i'm still waiting for the drink, and getting more irritable by the second. “ Ok, I’m just going to take off now,” I holler at the empty counter, “ This is taking too long anyway....” . “Wait!” says the strange cashier , who had suddenly reappeared from the kitchen “ H,H,Here it is!”. “ Finally” I murmur i take the drink. Its hard to tell, but for a moment, the drink appeared to flash very bright, but I couldn't be sure. I turn back to thank the man, only to find him staring at me with a hard glint in his eyes. “ Come again…” The man says. He walks away, back into the kitchen. Then hes gone.
“Stranger and stranger” I think. Sipping the strange drink I hurriedly jog to school. I make it just in time, and proceed through my school day. After a long day, my bus drops me off at my house. Checking my watch, i see that its still 2:30. Still two hours until any one will get home. I Jump on my couch and turn on the TV. Suddenly, i feel a strange tingling, traveling up my arm to my shoulder. Quite unexpectedly, the fabric of my shirt near my shoulder suddenly bursts, and out of it come a gruesome arm! Yelping, I jump up in horror. I move my right arm to get up, maybe find a mirror to look at the thing, when the arm moves. It moves with my right arm, in perfect symmetry. Horrified, I stop moving. The TV is still blaring away, seemingly oblivious.
This story is based on an assignment given by our English teacher. She gives a sentence starter and leaves the rest to us. Mine was that you drink something and you grow an extra arm.
