I am a refugee.

I come from the planet Lazarith. It is filled with war, chaos, and death. Now I am on Earth alone. My parents were killed by our invaders, the Aridians, terrible spider-like creatures.

I am afraid.

I am afraid of what my new life will be like on Earth. I have heard that humans aren’t too kind to aliens so I have disguised myself as one of them. I had done my fair share of research on Earth back on Lazarith, but I never could have imagined it would be this beautiful. My home is dark with a lot of black and warm colors. Here on Earth my eyes are bombarded by all the beautiful bright greens, pinks, purples, and blues, more colors than my mind could have ever imagined.

I am curious.

I am curious about well… everything about Earth. Being here is so much different than reading some stories about it from one of our science probes. I think my first mission is to befriend a human. My locator device tells me I am in a place called New York, it is very loud here. Why are their cars on the ground? Seems a little silly when you could easily put them in the sky like back home. I have heard that humans aren’t very rational. From what I have read a typical human greeting is hello and to shake their appendage called a hand.

….Later

I am not human.

It turns out that the Aridians were not too happy about the heir to the Lazarithian throne leaving before they could kill her. Now they’ve come to Earth with a message only meant for me:

“We will be waiting for you in the upper atmosphere of Earth Princess Aniran. If you love this pathetic and primitive planet so much you will surrender yourself in the next 24 Earth hours.”

I know what I have to do but I really don’t want to do it.

I am not ready.

I am not ready to leave this place, I have become comfortable with my new life. I have made a friend whose name is Ethan. At first I found it to be a strange name; it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as Clisteœska. I met Ethan on something humans call a train.

“Hello I am a human that is named Aniran!”

“Hello there!”

“Greetings fellow human.”

She kept going around the train cart like this saying hi to everyone and shaking their hand. Now this has got to be the weirdest person I have ever encountered on this train. Most people gave her weird looks or said hello back in a hesitant way. I’m assuming most people think she's another homeless lady that’s just lost her mind (we do get a lot of those).

To Be Continued…

Just a small piece of what is a much larger story.
