It’s so easy to drift away with you, my dear
Like the snowflakes outside my window
As long as our hands hold fast
I could fly anywhere
I grip your warm hand now
Not wanting to jinx it
Your eyes open
My heart skips a beat
Green-blue gems sparkle at me
I cuddle into your chest
Wanting to stay like this forever
You bury your nose in my hair
Wrapping your arms around me
I think about when we first met
As the smell of coffee wafts from the kitchen

At that little newspaper shop at the corner of West 57th
I remember that day was extra cold
It was snowing…like today
I was bundled up in my tan trench coat and my brown beanie, gloves, and scarf
I remember because you commented on how my chocolate eyes shined
We both reached for the same newspaper
But you, being the gentleman, bowed and let me take one first
I smiled and looked up at you
Those green-blue jewels shimmered at me
I felt close to you already
Even when we just met
But I decided to just wave and walk away
Almost losing you forever
I felt a sense of pain as I stopped at the door of the coffee shop
But I knew I didn’t deserve you
A tap on my shoulder startled me
I turned around
You flashed me a white grin
“Hey, wanna grab coffee?”
Warmth filled inside me
“Why, of course…I was just stopping in.”
“Funny…I was too.”
I felt a strong connection as we walked inside
The aroma of coffee washed over us
We bonded over lattes and muffins
Mine was too hot and I burned my tongue
You laughed and patted my shoulder
We chatted about our futures
That’s when it just clicked
We were meant to be
Outside the snow was falling and I mentioned how cold I was
You wrapped your arm around me and held me close
I felt so safe in your embrace
I smiled up at you and you looked down at me, grinning
Snowflakes cascaded onto our eyelashes
You leaned in
I pushed off my toe
Our first kiss is my favorite memory
We walked around town after that
Hand in hand
Talking about our interests
It was so easy to talk to you
Drift away with you…
My life felt complete

I stare intently at all your cute little freckles dancing upon your nose and cheeks
You run your fingers through my knotty blonde hair
The scent of coffee beans tickles my nose
I slip out of bed quickly
And run to the kitchen
Grab our two coffee mugs from the cabinet
Wait for the coffee pot impatiently
Finally pour the steaming coffee
And sprint back to you
Hot coffee, déjá vu
You smile thankfully at me
“How’d you know,” you wink
I throw my head back and laugh
Then take a sip
“Ahh…too hot!” I whimper
You pat my shoulder and your laugh rings in my ears
I set down my cup as you set down yours
Your palm softly runs along the side of my face
And our first kiss happens all over again

Isn’t it amazing that simple, little things like snowflakes or coffee can revive an entire story?
