Cabin Fire
Hakim and Bella are a married couple that met on a hike on Mt. Hood. On an early Friday morning Hakim comes up with an idea to visit their log cabin pretty close to where they met for their anniversary. Hakim says “What would you think about heading up to the cabin for the weekend? I didn’t bring any work home with me, and I miss you,” Hakim said to his wife, Bella. They loved hiking and met years ago on a hike up Mt. Hood. It became their favorite place so they found a cabin to buy near the spot where they first met.
“Sure, I would love to, you know that. But, you said you didn’t want to go anywhere for our anniversary this year. What changed?”
“I don’t know. I just think we should head up. I could work if I needed to but it’s our anniversary, and I know how much it means to you.”
Bella grinned, happy Hakim changed his mind. “I’ll be packed in 30 minutes.”
“Perfect,” Hakim smiled. Hakim takes a seat and turns on the car. Hakim turns on the radio and waits for bella. Bella walks up to the car and opens the door and says “I'm so excited!” They listen to their favorite songs on the way there, called “California Love” by Tupac.
They arrived at the cabin with a smile on their face. They step in the door and are greeted by a sweet and crisp scent of cedar. They walk down the hall and up the stairs. They set down their bags and walk back down the stairs and into the kitchen to make a couple hot chocolates. The scent of coco in the air warms their hearts. While the coco is brewing Hakim walks over to the fireplace and puts 2 logs on the fire, the fire blows warm air into the cabin bringing the room to a settling and cozy temperature. Bella brings a hot cup of cocoa to Hakim. They both sit by the fireplace and take a sip of cocoa. A wave of safety falls across them. “I love being here,” Bella says softly.“Me, too. I’m glad we came up here for the weekend. It’s the perfect way to spend our anniversary.” They fall into a comfortable silence and enjoy the fire, the warmth, and the company.
Hakim wakes up at two in the morning drenched in sweat. He goes down stairs to get water but as he opens the door he sees raging flames roaring down his hallway.
Hakim runs back into his room to wake bella. “BELLA WAKE UP!”
Bella says “what's going on?” He replies “our cabin is on fire”
They run to the nearest window and climb out. They get onto the roof and slide off from the second floor. When Hakim hits the ground, he feels emptiness and anxiousness running through his veins.
Hakim gets up to check on Bella. Hakim wipes the smoke from his eyes and yells “Bella!” “Bella!” He glances around trying to find her but she is nowhere to be seen. Hakim glances over and sees His cozy cabin being inhaled by flames. He circles around the house and finds Bella layed frozen in the snow. Hakim runs over to check her pulse and feels nothing. Hakim bursts into tears and falls to the floor.
Then all the sudden the house explodes with a loud “BOOM” a wooden beam comes flying towards Hakim and Bella’s direction. Hakim is staring at that flying Beam and the seconds turn into minutes and Hakim knows it's the end.
He reflects everything he did in life regretting his failures and praises his accomplishments. He closes his eyes and the beam hits him in a flash.
