"Yet, even so, there are unthinkable moments where I can find no words, in any language, living or dead."<br /> ~Thunderhead

It was a dreary and rainy Spring day, The kind Jake had always hated since he was a kid. Jake had nothing much that stood out about him except his eyes were such a strong green color that his mom used to say the gem fairy put emeralds in his eye one night. He had black hair which contrasted his eyes. He was built like a basketball player, being 6’2 had that effect. Although he did play basketball with friends he never tried out for the team, he simply thought he wasn’t good enough. He decided on slim jeans and a black Aeropostale shirt today. The only thing he ate was an apple on his way out which he grabbed after kissing his mother goodbye. He walked out to the car and tuned the radio to 96.5.

“Why do they always play Better now by Post Malone?”

He turned the radio off and drove in silence gathering his thoughts. He was eager to see his best friend after school to shoot some hoops. When he arrived at school he went to his blue and gold locker that was way too small to put anything in it, Jake just put his jacket in there. When he shut his locker. Alex was at the locker to the left of him, locker 302. To simply put it, Alex was the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on, she had strikingly light brown, almost yellow, amber eyes. She was tall for a girl, standing at 5’11. Her hair was a light brown caramel color. And she always wore plain looking clothes that she made look like the most extravagant of clothes. She could be a model.

“Hey Alex”

“Hi Jake, did you do the math homework?”

“Yes I did, I can’t afford to miss another assignment the last time I didn’t turn in homework Mr. Hauffer called my mom.”

“That’s pretty lame of him. Anyways I have to go talk to Maddison, she is probably just going to need to copy my homework but oh well. See ya ”

“Bye”

He watched her walk away, he noticed the bounce in her step and the way she seemed to just be walking on her heels. I wonder why she is so happy. He went to his first-period class. Which was Science, his least favorite subject, but he was glad to get it out of the way. He sat through a boring lecture on Atomic radius and Valence Electrons. Second period was a free period. He went straight to the gym, this was his time to play basketball. This was one of his releases from life when he was playing he did not think about anything but the game. When Jake was in the zone he was in the zone. He would drain three after three, swish his hook shots, and break plenty of defenders ankles.

When the time came for him to pack up and head to his next class everyone would stare at him like he was an alien, just because he was sweating and breathing heavy. He didn’t let them bother him his passion was basketball, with music being a close runner up. He finished the school day, missing a detention by the hair of his chin for being late to English. Now it was time to go home and make music. Pick a beat, forget about everything, write whatever comes to your head, get rid of the bad, polish, produce. This was Jake’s mindset whilst writing. He had just wrapped up another song and decided to produce it, so he got out his recording equipment and started to go at it.

“Man I’m coming to a state of realization”

“Right now not feeling so amazing”

“Life looking monochrome”

“Right now feeling alone”

“So I rap to microphone”

“Tell you all about my home”

“Then I grab the cellphone”

“We haven’t talked in a while”

“Say I can’t live this lifestyle”

“Who are you to tell me what the...”

There’s a bump outside his window, Jake takes the time to pause his recording before asking,

“Who’s there?”

No one responds so he stalks toward the window, grabbing his safety baseball bat.

“If you're out there I am not going to hold back and I’m armed”

“Hi”

Alex? What is she doing here at 9 o’clock at night?

“I...I can’t stop thinking about you Jake, I wanted to know If we could spend more time together Like a lot of time together”

The girl I have been dreaming about just admitted that She wants to spend more time with me... Okay act cool Jake

“Of course Alex.”

“Come outside with me I want to take a walk in the forest.”

“Sure thing.”

The walk to the forest was 25 minutes from my house and Alex was quiet but she held my hand the whole way. When we arrived she said only said,

“I’m Sorry Jake”.

Then pain, white, hot, searing pain. Then all of a sudden no pain, no anything. I felt oddly at peace. I was still taking in my surroundings, a hazy film over everything I saw, but I heard better than ever. Alex was crying and screaming while running away, presumably to go get help but it was too late for me.

“That’ll teach that little $#!* to not talk too, stare, or even think about my woman.”

I should’ve known it was a trap in the heat of the moment I had forgotten that Alex was dating Seth, the biggest jerk of the whole school, he thinks he owns everything just because he is rich.

Someone who I don’t recognize said: “Do you think he’s dead?”

“What difference does it make it is just one less piece of scum on the earth.”

The cops came later to put my body in the white bag and on the stretcher, but it was at this moment I saw the blinding light in front of me, A young business like man stepped forward.

“I will only say this once, you have lived a good life, you are going to be reincarnated, and because you held high morals throughout this life, you are going to live the life of King Tut, in a different universe from this one of course, you will remember nothing of this life and will be tested again your next death, see you next time”

“Wait how many times have I died before?”

“Exactly 231,982”

Then he was gone as soon as he came, and I felt a weird sensation while seeing another bright light, I realized I was crying and screaming. At the same time, I was shrinking and forgetting all my memories.

“I think it’s a boy!”

A short story I had to cut short in order to get rid of unnecessary details.
