new life
The line that had once moved lively in a pattern had now gone flat, the line that showed the happy and healthy heart beat of a precious two year olds life had now flattened and come to an end. Sadness instantly filled the young parents’ hearts and started to flow out of their tired eyes. Their first child had now been ripped from the earth after a long but short two years of living and sadly suffering and now he was gone. They were lost and had no idea what was next, they didn’t know what to do without what had once been the high light of their lives. Just walking past their child’s room knowing he would never get to play with those toys again and his favorite blanket would never be cuddled by him again brought so much sadness to their hearts. They tried to stay positive the next couple of weeks and months, remembering that their child was no longer in pain but living carelessly in heaven where he would always be safe and loved. So much reminded the young and tired parents of their child, but something had changed in them, they started to look at things more positive. Instead of crying when reminded of him they would smile and their hearts would now fill with not quite happiness but almost comfort, knowing he was safe and watching over them. Many more weeks had passed and the parents were starting to cope with the death of their child more and more every day when something great happened. Exactly a year after the loss of their child they got the news they would be expecting another one. The parents felt something they hadn’t in a long time, pure happiness. They felt that a piece of their heart that had once broken off now was regained and the sadness resting on their chests had been lightened. They knew they would never completely heal from what had happened and they would definitely never forget about him but this would sure make it easier for them to be happy again. When their second child was born months later they realized he was their guardian angel, and they couldn’t have been blessed with a more perfect human being to be their second child. He reminded them of him in so many ways; his smile, his nose, his eyes, everything reminded them of him and they hadn’t been so happy since before their first child was sick. The toys they once thought were never going to be played with again and the blanket they thought was going to never be cuddled again had now found their perfect baby boy. The young parent’s hearts were now happy again and they live for the day their two children will get to meet and share their toys and blankets together. Everyday seemed to be a new adventure with their new sunshine, a new remembrance of their first child appeared in him each day. They always tried their best to cover the tears with smiles and stay strong for their new baby and for themselves but it seemed to get harder as their child started to get older and curious. He started to ask questions like who is that baby in those picture frames and why is there an untouched baby room that seems to be avoided. There was no easy way to break the news to their child and it hurt just as much as they expected it to. Of course he didn’t fully understand the concept of death or cancer but he understood that his brother he never got to meet was gone forever and would only return in thoughts and memories. They explained to him that without him they would be lost in darkness sadness but he came in to protect them and keep them happy; their guardian angel. They explained to him that every feature he had reminded them of his brother and that their sadness was turned into happiness and comfort all because of him, they needed him and there he was.
