Almost there
Almost There
“Boo”, screamed my mom as she woke me up from my wonderful dream. “ Get up and get ready for school.”
“Five more minutes. It’s only 6:00am, and I usually don’t get up until 6:30am.” I said.
“We have a surprise for you. Something you have been wanting to do for a while now!” said mom.
“Okay mom, this better be good! I’m getting out of bed thirty minutes early for this.”
I jumped out of my bed, and ran into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, put my makeup on, and fixed my hair. I put my hair down and curled it. Then I went into my big, green walk-in closet and picked out a outfit to wear to school. I chose to dress fancy today, because I was up so early. I picked out a red and gray, long sleeve dress that has flowers on it and
gray boots, because it was getting chilly outside.
“I bet they finally decided to bring me to Jack’s morning like I have been asking them to do for the past month or so. I hope they do, because I am starving!”, I thought to myself.
I ran downstairs and into the kitchen to see what the surprise was. When I walked in they were fixing me a huge breakfast. They had eggs, bacon, biscuits, and coffee all fixed and ready to eat. My mom was making me a glass of orange juice.
“So i’m guessing the surprise is not going to Jack’s?” I said.
“No, but it is something far greater than that!” Dad said.
I walked over to the counter and got my orange juice. I sat down, and pulled my plate over in front of where I was sitting at.
“If it’s not Jack’s, what’s the big surprise.” I said.
Dad walked over to the refrigerator and pulled 3 slips of paper from the top of it. He held them out showing me what they were.
“I know how much you have been wanting to go on a mission trip to Belize lately, and we finally decided that we should let you. If that is what The Lord has called you to do, then it is only fair if we let you go. We are all going on the next plane out which leaves this saturday so we have to pack fast.” said dad.
I was so excited I did not know what to say. I have been dreaming about going and helping the kids in Belize for at least a year now! I know I am only 14 years old, but I think I could make a great impact on those kids lives. We are leaving on Saturday and it is Wednesday which gives me three days to pack.
“Well, are you going to say anything?” mom said.
“Oh yes, I am just so astonished that you guys would out of the blue buy us ticket to go to belize. Thank you guys so much. I have wanted this for so long! I love you both so much!
“Your welcome, and we love you too! We’re just glad that you’re happy!” said dad.
I finished my breakfast and got my bags. I went to the car and turned the radio and heat on, while I waited for my mom to come to the car and bring me to school. She came out and got in the car. We drove to school talking the whole way about the things we will see, do, and experience in belize. She let me out of the car and told me goodbye. I walked into the school eager to tell my best friend, Monica, that my mom bought me tickets to go to Belize. I walked into my first period class and sat down in my normal seat. The very back row which is also two seats down from the wall by the door is where I sit. I could see Monica on the other side of the room talking to the teacher about something. She skipped to her seat with a huge smile on her face. I glanced at the clock. There was there more minutes until class started.
I ran over to her desk and said, “ Monica! Monica! My mom finally bought me tickets to go to Belize. You know how long i have wanted to go there for a mission trip!”
“Really! You have been asking for what, a year or so? I can’t believe she finally agreed to letting you go! I have some big new too! Mrs. Harp just told the that I get to go on a huge field trip for smart people!
“That’s great Monica! I wish I could..”
All of a sudden the bell went off over the intercom.
The speakman came over the intercom and said, “There is an intruder inside the school somewhere. Stay calm, lock your doors, and get against the wall.”
“You heard the speaker. Stay calm and get against the wall! Be quiet so the intruder does not think of our room as a target.” said Mrs. Harp.
Monica and I went to the very far corner in the back of the room. I got my phone out and texted my mom and said, “ Mom, there is a intruder in the school. Tell dad and pray that everything will be okay. I love you! See you soon!”
I looked around the room and it appeared that everyone was on their phone texting their parents. I looked over at Monica and told her we should pray. We prayed then sat calmly waiting for this all to pass over. Then someone started banging on the classroom door. The teacher told us to be quiet and walked over to see who it was. When she looked out the window of the door it was a student from my algebra class. His name was Ben.
“Open the door! If you don’t open the door I will!” said a girl named Emily. She is his girlfriend and they have been dating for 2 years now.
“I can’t open the door. I’m not allowed to!” said Mrs.Harp.
“Well you can’t just lock him outside of the room to die! Just open the door for a second and let him in, then lock it straight back!” said Emily.
Mrs. Harp opened the door and Ben ran in. The intruder also came crashing in. He had on a black shirt that said, “I don’t care about anything.” He had on torn up blue jeans and brown hair. He had a gun in his hand and a frustrated look on his face.
“Everyone! Stand up! Get against the window!” he said.
I saw a broom on the other side of the room.
“I’m gonna go get that broom and knock him out so we can all escape. You have to distract him though.” I said.
“Are you crazy? Just hang low and stay unnoticeable. Don’t make yourself a target!” said Monica.
“Please, you have to trust me! This is the only way we might make it out of this. On the count of three i’m gonna go get the broom and you do something to distract him.”
“ Okay, but i’m trusting you on this. Don’t get hurt.” said Monica.
“ Alright are you ready? One, Two, Three!” I yelled.
Monica ran over to the door and pretended like she was about to try to escape. I ran over and grabbed the broom. I ran up to him before he could hurt Monica and hit him the back with the broom. He turned around and everyone yelled, “Hit him in the head!” I swung the broom back but right as I did I heard three loud sounds. “Boom, Boom, Boom.” One after another. I slowly fell to the ground. Monica grabbed the broom and whacked him upside the head harder then she has every swung in softball in practice.
“Jess! No! Jessie! Get up! Keep your eyes open! Someone call 911!” screamed Monica.
“Stand back! Everyone get back! Monica, call 911! Emily, go get the principle, and Ben, go get the nurse!”
I could barely see. My vision was getting worse by the second. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I knew I had been shot. I knew I probably wouldn't make it so I prayed to god and asked him to forgive me of my sins. I knew I probably wouldn’t see my family or best friend ever again, so I told Mrs. Harp to tell Monica to have a amazing time on her big trip and that she has always been there for me and that I love her. I told her to tell my parents not to back out of the Belize trip, and to fulfill my dream of going. I told her to tell them I love them and that I would see them again in heaven one day. My eyes went out. I couldn’t see anything, feel anything. All I felt was relief and peace. Then I saw a bright light. In the very center of that light was God, sitting on a big huge golden chair.
“Welcome home.” he greeted me.
At that moment I knew exactly where I was, and where I would be for a very long time. I knew that I would once again see my mother and father and best friend. One of these days they will join me in the walk with The Lord, and that will be the day we all come together, once again, yet now, it will be forever.
