The Bank-Shot
Tim Marshall was ecstatic, he had just won the ACC championship and would be a number two seed in the final sixty-four tournament. He knows that the fans of UNC has high hopes of going all the way after beating Duke twice this year. Tim is nervous because he is the star of the team and everyone is counting on him to have big games during the tournament.
Tim credited all of his talent to his amazing coach, Dean Williams. Tim had went from being a mediocre player in high school, to being an amazing point guard in college. Tim had also had a double-double in every game all season. Tim has also fell in love with a girl named Ashley, and he hopes to take things further in the relationship. Tim plays for her in every game.
UNC wins the first game by thirty points, and the second by eighteen. UNC was looking and playing extremely great, and they were living up to the hype. They look like they could take down the number one seed Kentucky. All they had to do was keep playing like they were and they would beat Kentucky easily.
One morning before practice, tim gets a message from Ashley saying “I think we should see other people”. Tim was really sad, this was the girl that he had planned to spend the rest of his life with and she had left him just like that. Tim had to get this off his brain and concentrate on the next game because they were in the sweet 16.
The UNC basketball team played great the next two games. Tim had a triple-double in both games and rolled on by Kentucky winning by 13. They were now in the final four going up against Gonzaga. They had played great and could possibly go all the way. The night they won they went out to celebrate, and it was snowing bad.
They were on the way back from eating steaks at outback, when they hit an icy spot on the road, and their bus spun out of control down a hill. The bus rolled 12 times. Tim was surprisingly okay, and he was up fast checking on people. Everybody seemed okay, but he couldn’t find Coach Williams. He got out of the bus and looked around and saw a body up on the hill.
As Tim got to the body, he could see the blood colored snow. He has trying to get some kind of response out of his coach but he couldn’t get anything. About that time the EMT’s were pulling him back. With tears in his eyes he couldn’t believe he had lost two of his closest friends in two weeks.
Knowing he has lost his greatest coach ever, he has become determined to win the championship. He leads the team to a 78-73 win over Gonzaga and moves on to the championship against Kansas. With his coach on his mind, he leads his team to a win against Kansas by his last second bank-shot. He is more excited for his coach than he is for himself. He reminds himself that anything is possible as long as you have your mind and heart along with you.
