Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust
Closely hiding her tears, Clara began to say goodbye. It was time to let go, time to move on.
“I know you wouldn’t want to see me cry, so I’m not going to. I swear,” she spoke softly, but loud enough for him to hear her.
“Tonight is beautiful, isn’t it,” Clara sighed, sure she’d remember this night forever. “I guess I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He was silent.
She stood and looked over the ledge they were on. The ocean was simply gorgeous, shimmering with the sunset.
“You’ll be okay on your own?”
He was silent.
“I sure hope so…you know I still love you, right?”
Again, he was silent.
“I’ll love you for as long as I live, and that’s the truth.” Soft wind picked up her hair and made it fly around her face.
She noticed the dust in the air, and muttered softly, “For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
He was ever so silent.
Clara picked up the urn and cast its contents across the ledge, across the ocean.
“Goodbye, Daddy."
