What's the Use?
The counter was sticky. From what, she didn’t know. Everything this place served was dripping in grease. She thought about wiping the counter with a napkin, but really, what would be the use? She would not be staying long anyway.
Every time the door creaked open, she turned around to look. She should have chosen a seat that faced the door.
Nine times. The door creaked again. Ten. She starting tapping her fingers on the sticky counter. Twelve. She looked at her watch. More tapping. Fifteen. Finally she got up to leave. He wasn’t coming.
