Homestake Reservoir
High up in the mountains of minturn colorado there is a big lake called homestake reservoir. Homestake Reservoir is near a campsite and has a river right near it. It also smells like pine trees. In early August in the summer of 2022 I went camping there. When we got there it was a little drained out but still a very large reservoir. There were even people working on an old abandoned mine. I could hear the drills going off in the mine. We decided to bring our fishing poles to see if we could catch anything big. Since this lake is in the mountains the water is cold. So there's a lot of trout in it. Unfortunately we didn’t catch anything but we did get a couple of bites. I did find out that it is very rocky. I mean it would make sense because it is a made lake. But I ended up losing one of my favorite lures because it got snagged and snapped off. There were a lot of rocks so we skipped them and tried to throw them as far as we could and then I saw that there was a dam not very far away and we were trying to hit the other side. And we got very close but the rocks were just too small and the wall might have been too far away. But what was really cool was all the rocks made some really small ponds when they drained out. And the pools weren't too deep but perhaps 6 to 8 feet. And one of them had a big rock next to it. And we wanted to jump off of it. But what made us hesitant was that when he dipped our hands in the water it wasn't just cold it was freezing. But we still wanted to do it so we did. I went first and when I hit the water I was shocked . The water made me breath fast. I got out of the water as fast as lighting. Afterwards, I ate some food and it was really good. And then we went back to the campsite and I ate more food.
