Boom, boom.
Boom, boom. Once, before lady corn was grown. Boom, boom. A flat land stretched for miles. Boom, boom. Buffalo ran from dawn to dusk. Boom, boom. Dust from their hooves trailed like smoke from campfire. Boom, boom. By night wolves like ashes of grassfire roamed the land, hunting the buffalo. Boom, boom. Tribe Pawnee Chawi followed like totem panther of shadows behind buffalo. Boom, boom. They brought with them their tents of buffalo skin, soft beaten. Boom, boom. Black king sun and totem grey wolf were painted on the tents. Boom, boom. A hundred tents stood like braves, strong mighty warriors. Boom, boom. Lord river and lord wind followed their path. Boom, boom. 70 strong warriors hunted buffalo with mighty spear. Boom, boom. Boy named Owopsa walked with tall grass and followed lord wind. Boom, boom. Boy found young buffalo. Boom, boom. Young buffalo was hurt by wolf. Boom, boom. Boy asked totem buffalo what was totem buffalo doing. Boom, boom. Buffalo told boy to bind his wound with grasses. Boom, boom. Boy had no knife to cut grasses. Boom, boom. Totem buffalo said no. Boom, boom. Totem buffalo told boy to cut grasses with flint. Boom, boom. Boy took flint and cut grasses. Boom, boom. In this way the people learned to use flint. Boom, boom. Boy bound totem buffalos wound. Boom, boom. Totem buffalo disappeared in cloud smoke. When smoke rose away boy saw Goddess Atira. Boom, boom. Goddess Atira said that for boys kindness he would be blessed. Boom, boom. She rose her hands and clapped twice. Boom, boom. The first eagle was called to the land to forever watch over the people. Boom, boom. She plucked a feather from lord totem eagle and placed it in boys hair. Boom, boom. The feather made boy strong, mighty warrior. Boom, boom. Since then the eagle has blessed people and given people his feathers. Boom, boom. The chieftain, face painted with red stripes, finished the story and set aside his drum. The villagers of Pawnee Chawi roared their approval and soon smothered the red clay fire with tall smoke and went to their bear, bison, wolf, and sun patterned teepees.
